The video segment was produced a few months ago and the deployment data is out of date.  We now have Windows 7 out of the lab and in the user acceptance part of the testing.  Our test environments include Reservations, airport ticketing/gate and maintenance - operationally criticla areas.

We continue to find that applications that run on Vista SP1 run on Windows 7 unless the application performs a hard version check.  The last itmes we are waiting on are the usual suspects with OS migrations - drivers and AV engines.  HP has been a great partner and already provides stable drivers for their more modern business line PCs/laptops.  The Symantec End Point (SEP) beta client has been stable so far.

We have roughly 80 Windows 7 units in production.

Jan, I am happy to hear from a fellow 21 year Continental veteran.   First, you should know that we do have a limited number of Macs on the Continental network.  They support some specialty applications in Corporate Communications, Marketing and at the Print Shop.  I will disagree with you on the monopoly position.  By enforcing standards at the hardware and operating system layers, Continental has greatly reduced its IT operating budget and is far more nimble.  As a case in point, when we wanted to configure PCs for reduced power consumption during off hours, we only had to deal with one operating system and just a handful of NICs.  We were able to craft the solution in just a few days, test in a limited environment, and know that the solution would work everywhere.  

Don’t worry.  I have some personnel in my department that love their Macs and they help to keep any competitive analysis honest.

my 21 years career with Continental. Now I use both Mac & Windows and I see lot of superiority of Mac...

Monopoly is a never good solution.

Yes those tools are great. Please MS buy those tools and add the 5 most useful MB in Vista. Do it and you have one more client immediately!

I would like that the basic of what I expect from OS exist in Vista or W7. Now I have to use Total Commander (dual panel, favorites, ftp, search, copy without deleting all,... all is much beter!)  instead of the crazy explorer and to move lots of file, i cannot do without Tera Copy. Damn this is not normal! In the meantime, i keep my WXP.
